Luca is from a very rare line of the Canadian Horse breed. He is one of  only three living stallions related to the great Tonka Wonka, all descended through the same son, Nimrod. Tonka Wonka was one of only four stallions sired by Thomas de Viger. Tonka Wonka’s  sire line is extremely rare and is in danger of disappearing if care is not taken to preserve it.    Luca follows the breed standard exceptionally. He is short-coupled, sound, muscular, big boned and has the famous “abundant mane and tail” of the Canadian Horse. His smaller size makes him quick and handy, yet he is robust enough to carry an adult man under saddle. He has done very well in local OHA in both driving and halter. Though he has not had any Canadian Horses to compete with in local halter classes, many judges have taken an immediate liking to him and he often places above other “familiar” breeds. His owner, Robert Shannon, showed him at the Canadian Horse Heritage and Preservation Society (CHHAPS) show in Maple Ridge, B.C. in 2006 and 2007. He placed well in tough halter class of mature stallions both years, won numerous driving classes and was second in the Iron Horse Competition in 2007.

Temperament

Luca has an amazing personality. He was in his first driving show, the Stallion Showcase at the Northwest Horse Fair, in 2003 when he had only 5 weeks of cart training. While playful and curious, he is also very reliable and cool in stressful situations. Once while being driven in a demo,  a riding horse  panicked and ran  into Luca’s cart. Luca was actually lifted off his feet by the impact, but he stood there calmly and then exited the arena as if nothing had happened!
